Banking Apprenticeship Opportunity

A Banking Apprenticeship is a paid position providing on-the-job training that allows you to learn job functions within the banking industry while working side-by-side with our team of experienced bankers and attending classes. First Bank is proud to partner with Harper College to offer students a two-year paid apprenticeship. This on-the-job training and educational opportunity will open doors and provide first-hand experience and insight into the world of banking.

Position Overview

The Banking Apprenticeship is a two-year program with 12-week semesters. Classes are held two days per week through Harper College. Apprentices work three or four days per week at First Bank; have a dedicated mentor; and are assigned to two years of hands-on experience in Retail Banking and/or Banking Operations.

Apprentices who complete the Banking Apprenticeship will earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Business Administration with a concentration in Financial Management, a certification from the United States Department of Labor indicating they are fully qualified for their occupation, combined with two years of banking experience.

First Bank pays for class hours attended. In addition, all training costs, tuition, fees and books are covered by First Bank.

Eligibility

High School Diploma or GED
One to two years of work experience
Demonstrated leadership skills are a plus
Additional education and/or training is helpful

Summer Internship

Looking for a Summer Internship in the financial industry? Our paid Internship Program is full-time and lasts 10-12 weeks. The program typically starts in late May and ends in early August.

The Summer Internship Program at First Bank will get you fully immersed in community banking—both consumer and commercial banking. We are looking for college students with sophomore or junior standing, majoring in: Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, IT and Human Resources.

While you will be assigned a specific role within a department, our program will give you full exposure to all areas of the Bank. Regular “Lunch and Learns,” meeting observations, job shadowing, off-site visits and department presentations are just a few of the ways we get you involved.
